Kids say the FuNniEst things

After picking Caden up from Sunday School he asked, "Mom, did God say if there was coffee and donuts today?" Caden fell when riding his bike and asked if he should have those sticks that go under your arms so he could walk easier. Caden announced last week that he was going to marry Lizzy from school. We went along and asked why. He said, "because she is so nice and pretty. And I only want to marry nice and pretty girls. But I'm not going to tell her I'm going to marry her that's a secret." Kevin and I agreed that would be a good secret. I curled my hair a couple of weeks ago (curling iron curly). Caden told me, "Mom, I like your hair like that. You look like one of the Cheetah Girls." If you don't watch Playhouse Disney then this is a very high complement coming from a 5 year old. I told Caden that made my week. He told me that my curly hair made his week too! :) We moved Ashtin into a forward facing car seat. Yesterday was her first ride facing forward and she was thrilled. She looked so small in the big seat but was kicking her legs, smiling, and doing her little giggle laugh. She was very concerned as to who was going to sit next to her and looking out the window. On the drive I would look at her through the rear view mirror and say, "Ashtin, I see you." She would eye me through the mirror and smile and wave. Oohhh so precious. Finley moved up a class at school from Savannah to American Flyers. Last night she was playing on the floor with me and Ashtin. She was talking to Ashtin and telling her that she went to American Flyers today. I said Yeah, Finley. She told me to be quiet that she was not talking to me she was only talking to Ashtin. This past weekend I walked into the family room to find torn paper all over the floor. I hollered at Finley to come clean it up. Caden was out with Kevin and Ashtin was napping. Finley denied having made the mess and said Ashtin did it. I told her unlikely since she is asleep and she started to pick up the mess and said sorry, mom, sorry. Do I get a special treat for picking up the mess? I said no. Finley then defended her statement with, I said sorry and I cleaned up Caden's mess! :) On the way home from school yesterday I asked what should we have for dinner tonight? Caden said "how about chick fillet?" I said no something at home. He replied with we could just have snacks or cookies or something? Finley was wearing a Hannah Montana shirt she got for her birthday. I told her that I was going to call her Hannah Montana. She said, I'm not Hannah Tanna I'm Penny Miller. I was tearing off the top of yogurt for a snack and Finley asked if she could tear it off because she never never never gets to do it. She also has used this never never never all through out the week.

Books Books Books

I love to read so I thought I would share with you some of my favorites.
Left to Tell by Immaculee Ilibagiza
In the spring of 1994, more than one million people were murdered in the Rwandan genocide. This is the story of how Immaculee survived certain death, along with seven other women, by hiding in a very small bathroom for more than 3 months. Day after day, for months, the killers would search nearby – gleefully chanting “kill them big, kill them small, kill them, kill them, kill them all!” With uncommon sincerity, Immaculee shares with us her soul's struggle through disbelief to anger and rage and, ultimately, forgiveness. She is living proof of the power of prayer and positive thinking. Her story will touch you deeply. You will feel her fear, you will cry, and you will ask yourself the same questions that we as a people have been asking forever: How could this happen? Where does such animosity come from? Why can't we just be like God, Who is the Source for all of us? But you will also feel something else most profoundly: You will feel hope, a hope that inch by inch, we as a people are moving toward a new alignment—that is, we're moving toward living God-realized lives. Love love love this book. Really puts everything in perspective. I also found it revolting that this happened in the 90's while I was in college and had no idea this occurred.
Little Earthquakes by Jennifer Weiner
A hilarious and warmhearted story of three young women who find friendship against the background of new motherhood. I read this when I was expecting Ashtin but really enjoyed the book. It's a very light and easy read.
Good in Bed by Jennifer Weiner
This bittersweet book follows plus-sized pop-culture journalist Cannie Shapiro as she comes to terms with the fact that her ex-boyfriend has been chronicling their sex life in a women's magazine. Again, a very light and easy read. I enjoyed Little Earthquakes and this book so much that I then went on to read all of this authors books.
Babyville by Jane Green
With Babyville, bestselling author Jane Green applies her golden touch to the next phase of a girl's life. By turns witty, rollicking, and tender, this sparkling, sexy tale about the complexities of modern motherly love isn't really a story about babies--it's about three friends whose lives are suddenly turned upside down by that life-changing event that hangs over the head of every single girl: motherhood. I really like all of her books too. Again a light easy read (how else could I stay up at night to read if it required to much though?)

Finley's Day

Happy 3rd Birthday Finley . . .
We celebrated Finley's birthday in full princess style on Saturday. She was treated to shopping and lunch with Grammy and Grandad and a new big girl bed. After a little rest she put her party clothes on and enjoyed the company of both grandparents and close friends. She was thrilled to have received new underwear too. Her big gift was a princess bicycle. Notice the gorgeous princess cake fit for the diva. Three is such a great age as she was thrilled to have everyone over and tore into her gifts.

She was not going to be upstaged by big brother who had to put on his "party clothes." Hopefully we will see him on Wall Street someday :) -picture top right

Happy Birthday big girl, we love you!
